She once said in an interview that she never wished to become an actress but a journalist, but ultimately found journalism unappealing, so she pivoted to filmmaking, and enrolled in a cinematography course at the Film and Television Institute of India at Pune. During the school's entrance exam, she met B. V. Nandini Reddy, who convinced Menen to take up acting. Reddy would later turn director and sign Menen for a lead role in her first Telugu film. Even though Menen's mother tongue is Malayalam, she can speak many South Indian languages.

Career :

After completing her studies, she got interested to be a filmmaker to express her ideas. So she had a plan to do a course in cinematography at the FTI, Pune, but it didn't happen. Earlier, Nithaya Menon appeared on screen as a child artist in the movie Hanuman, when she was eight years old.

Then, she got a chance to pair with Mohanlal in 2008 for 'Aakasha Gopuram', directed by KP Kumaran. Its an off-beat film, and Nithya performed well and many were impressed by her performance. She also got nominated for best supporting actress award category in the 57th Filmfare Awards. In 2011, her romantic comedy film Ala Modalaindi directed by Nandini Reddy was released and it became a hit. Then, she came with Santhosh Sivan's Urumi and her next release was '180', which was a bilingual Tamil-Telugu film which had Siddharth & Priya Anand alongside her, directed by Jayendra.
